Alice Fujita weaves baskets inspired by Japanese hanakago and local materials. In addition to that, as a fiber artist, she does cross stitch, knitting and sewing. As an ikebana instructor, she weaves nature into your home. You can find her at the annual Tapestry of Talent and Fall Fiber Arts Sale, or contact her to arrange private instruction for your group or event.

Working primarily with rescued textiles, my art has many influences. Fairy and folk tales, ethnic folk arts, and puppet theatre all echo in my work. But my earliest and strongest influence was the Victorian style crazy quilt gifted by my paternal grandmother. At 6 years old, I was entranced by the exotic and varied stitchery, the scratchy, stiff crinoline and upholstery velvets in broody, earthy hues. Already I knew that memories lay within that landscape’s folds, delivering richness and layers of emotion. I strive for this in everything I create. You can find my work at Made in Silver City (M.I.S.C.) 206 W Broadway, Silver City NM 88061.

I have been a fiber artist since 1990 after our sons started raising llamas in 4H and I started felting. With my husband’s support, I left my full time job in 2014 to pursue a full time fiber career supplemented by a part time job. Spinning and dyeing are my passion using the finest exotic fibers from around the world including a wide range of silks as well as vicuña, cashmere, qiviut and other luxury fibers. While I offer natural fibers, I am particularly proud of my small, unique batches of hand painted and dyed creations. I offer roving, locks, hand spun yarns, felted items, and some handmade items to you through online avenues and fiber events.
